If you come back and resurrect this thread when you’re ready to make the order, we’ll have a look over it again with you and see if there’s any new tech available and if we’d want to suggest any changes 🙂👍

Yes, very, there will be loads of new stuff by then. There's no point speccing something up until about a week before purchase, prices are fluctuating like mad at the moment and won't be the same by then even if you were to order the same components, it's likely you'll get more for your money at that stage and we'd adjust the build accordingly.

But either way, what we spec now, won't be what we spec in July or August at all.

Isn’t next gen Ryzen due in November?
There is always something new round the corner so you have to pick a time and stick to it (unless something is immediately imminent in a very short amount of time)

We'll still be in the ballpark in August but availability may be better. Be aware that at the moment it can take up to 3 months or longer to get a 3080 based system.

hi guys just wondering how long would it take for a high end gaming PC to be outdated ? / & how long would a high end PC last ?

There is no finite answer. Technogy moves on all the time. If you spec a system well and leave room for upgrades it can last years but impossible to give an exact number.

Important thing is to keep the system clean and repaste. Get a PSU higher capacity than needed, it gives room for upgrades but also no bit of kit wants to run flat out or near it.

Knowing exact use of the system would be needed to put the best possible spec together.

It's realistically very difficult to know as tech improvments become more of an exponential growth with each release. I feel people are probably still comfortably gaming (maybe not on the max settings but not far off) on 1080's which are approaching 6 years old now. It also depends a lot with this new generation of GPU's how much game makers step up the requirements to fully utilise these new cards and push out the old ones.

I saw you speccing a build earlier with some of the other forum members with a 3080 in it. I'd like to imagine that's a card that will last a very long time, so I wouldn't worry that your shiny new 3080 is gonna be useless in 2 years time. I reckon 4-5 years will be a decent life-span for that card... at a guess. It may be more, it may be less.

Hi @daniel02. Have you actually already purchased the ultrawide AOC monitor you linked earlier in the thread? We’re going to struggle with the budget if it’s already in your possession, that screen will need another €300ish to be decent as a gaming build. The photo and video editing you mentioned will also suffer.
