Worst service in history.

Just got my new laptop from PC Specialist!

Just kidding no I didn't. Instead I had to travel for miles to go pick it up myself. Why? Because some wise guy at PC Specialist thought it was a good idea to disallow ANYONE EVER from accepting your order except for YOU and AT YOUR HOUSE. No, your neighbours can't receive it on your behalf, no matter how hard you stress the fact that YOU WANT THEM TO, and it can't be delivered to the delivery service's local pickup shop because another wise guy at PC Specialist thought it was a brilliant idea to package a tiny laptop in a box four times its size. Apparently PC Specialist never realised people have jobs, and can't personally accept deliveries at whatever stupid hour their delivery contractor throws in your face.

Instead, I had to travel miles to Manchester's most godforsaken, run down, back alley neighbourhood where the delivery company's main depot is to collect the oversized parcel myself, and guess what, now I'm stranded freezing trying everything I can not to get this piece of junk wet. Someone please tell me how is being stranded in a rough, empty place with water seeping into your package a safer alternative to having your bloody neighbours take the delivery on your behalf?

At this moment, I have no idea how or when I'll make it home and whether this piece of junk I ordered would still be working, but one thing I know for sure: I will never, EVER buy anything from PC Specialist again.

And let's not talk about having to wait 20+ minutes on the line before one of them picks up the damn line. And did I ever mention how pointless an unmanned live chat feature is?

Good doing business with you. NOT.

Did you buy it using finance? To me it sounds like a security measure since it is a high value item. The swearing won't help, if it is was an inconvenience I believe you can get it delivered to your workplace but not if it was using finance.

Lets try and stay civil, otherwise the thread will have to be locked and nobody wants that.

Unfortunately its part of buying stuff over the internet, PCS cant send it to any address other than yours due to the value. You could have sent the machine to a workplace by prior arrangement with PCS though its not exactly ideal in every case I'm sure you could have come up with something.

The box is as big as it needs to be to protect the contents, if it was any smaller you would probably be here complaining about a smashed machine.

Anyway lets keep a lid on the emotions otherwise I will lock the thread.

It's PCS policy not to allow you to get it delivered to a neighbor etc due to it being a high value item. They won't allow it as what if they leave it at a neighbors house and it gets damaged there? You could say it wasn't your fault and demand a new one from PCS...

Couldn't you get Saturday delivery arranged either?

At the end of the day this is PCS policy and making a thread just to swear helps no one... Also, why judge the machine you purchased before even opening the box? It might be great for all you know, but either way, it's PCS policy to only deliver to you and you could've picked it up on a day it's not raining?

It's absolutely disgusting how PCS let it rain on the day Semo chose to pick the parcel up himself.
And PCS packaged the item in a cardboard box, who has heard of such a thing?

Hey Semo,

Much like the others above i can understand why PCS would choose this approach. Because of the value of the items and for security they would have to be delivered and signed for at the card holders address. This protects you in the event someone steals your package or your bank details. If you were on the receiving end of this trust me you would be thankful of this process.

As a customer receiving an item i think we have to take some responsibility for working with this procedure. Your able to track the package and should be able to work around work and arrange a mutual delivery time. In the end its your choice to go out to the depo and collect the item and not rearrange a delivery date so you are also accountable for the package after you take it from the courier.

In the end i hope you have return home safe with your PC in working order and working sweet and if you feel that this issue needs to be taken up further i would direct a polite and calm email or letter to PCS for official action to be taken.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I made it home eventually, had to wait an hour for a taxi to get to me. I can understand why they would be so cautious regarding delivery but I don't see why the recipient can't ask them to deliver to a neighbour. Couldn't get them to deliver it to my place of work by the way. And I ended up going to the depot because this is the third time the delivery is rearranged. They never give you the one hour window except on the day of delivery hence making it impossible to plan around. They just make things way too complicated. I couldn't wait till Saturday as I'm leaving the country on that day.

Also to those who say the box is big for added protection b the big fat box is simply just that. Inside it is the smaller actual box just floating inside. Not restrained by anything at all. Hardly sounds like extra protection to me.

I suspect the bigger box is just one of a few standard sizes which PCS will use to ship in. It would be uneconomical for PCS to provide a bespoke box for every combination of PC/peripherals etc. - however its sad to hear that there was no extra packing material between the smaller inner box and the larger outer box - this may have been an oversight I'm not sure.

I initially read this thread because of the title, which I think may be a little disingenuous and I don't really think that you (OP) think that either.

I'm not going to repeat anything said above - I'll just say I'm glad that you got the PC home ok and hope it exceeds your expectations!

As soon as I read the title I knew that this thread would provide with me some much needed Friday morning chuckles.
