Weird Power Problem When Gaming

Last night when playing Crysis 2 the lights in my PC started flickering on and off. The second time the PC restarted. I have never seen this happen before. Any ideas what could have caused this?

you're not using a UPS are you ?
post some specs for your pc, GFX card and PSU wattage etc.

ops just seen your footer..... all looks fine to me, might indicate a problem with the PSU?

Doesn't sound like a temperature thing but you could try monitoring temps while gaming just incase.

are you running your pc through a 4 gang ? is it surge protected ?

I have a surge protector, the max temp I get with Prime95 is 72C on Core 1. Never had temp issues (apart from the first time I received the PC I had to fix something in Bios), I will keep an eye on it and hope it is not a faulty PSU.

It seems this problem has had a serious consequence. I found my machine to be a bit sluggish after the problem I had on Thursday night so I went into properties under 'My Computer' and found it was only reading 4GB RAM. I then went into bios and it was showing the same reading. I then took out the RAM sticks and inserted 1 into the first RAM slot, the system would not boot. Then went through and inserted into the other slots and found the sytem does not boot when RAM is inserted to the first 2 slots. It seems like my PSU may be faulty and has damaged the RAM slots. What do I do?

Oh god NOOOOOOOOOO. I have so much personal data in my partitioned 1TB HDD. If I do have to RMA can someone from PCS let me know if I have to send the hard drive as well.

Erm if it is your boot drive then i would say yes as they would need to test the PC before returning it to you, best phone up and ask them monday for a definate answer.

Quick update for you guys. I have had to arrange an RMA which will be picked up tomorrow. As the fault is motherboard related I did not have to return the HDD. Saves me having to buy another HDD so that I can backup all personal data. I will buy an external one now just in case for the future, learnt my lesson. Can someone please confirm the address to put on the box?

If the motherboard needs to be changed I hope the cable management is as neat and tidy as Sanj's original handy work.

It is never nice to have to return anything for repair, fingers crossed DHL do not damage something in transit.

Will keep you guys appraised on how it all goes.

Do you mean in the welcome pack that came with the PC? If so I will rummage through and see if I can find anything in there.

So unfortunate, hope things get sorted out for the best.

Thanks for that, I hope so too. DHL picked up the PC at 4.30PM, sods law you wait all day and they arrive at the end of the day.

I am back to using my trusted but slow Q6600. Hope PCS can trace the problem and fix it quickly. My nephew already misses playing Portal 2 (I just don't understand the game, my game at the moment is Crysis 2).

Just checked DHL tracking, after 2 attempts the pc has been delivered and signed for by B ALDERSON. Hopefully it is someone at PCS and not an alias of Vanthus:D

I received an e-mail today and the lovely PCS techies have located and fixed the problem. Seems like the motherboard died on me. Awaiting the full fault report to find out exactly what went wrong. I have paid the extra £19 to get it delivered Saturday, don't really trust DHL to keep it safe for over 2 days in their warehouse. Fingers crossed it comes back to me without any damage in transit.....
