I am looking to upgrade from my i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz, 8 GB RAM, Gigabyte Z68Ap-D3. I have a GTX 1080 which i will be keeping along with my SSDs and HDDs.

I want a new everything else though.

Have configured a PC and come up with the following:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Core CPU
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570
RAM: 36GB Corsair Vengence DDR 4 3200mhz
PSU: Corsair 750W TXm Series Semi-Modular 80 Plus Gold

Using my PC for work and gaming, currently on a 1440p monitor.

Just wondering if the motherboard is overkill?

Thanks for your help.

Can you post the full spec?

What’s the PC for?

what monitor are you pairing it with, what resolution and refresh rate or make and model if you’re unsure?

what’s your max budget?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Core CPU
Cooling: PCS Frostflow 100 V2
Standard thermal paste
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570
RAM: 36GB Corsair Vengence DDR 4 3200mhz
PSU: Corsair 750W TXm Series Semi-Modular 80 Plus Gold

Use for working and gaming, currently on 1440p 60hz

Dont really want to pay more than £1k

Also worth noting that i might upgrade monitor in the future to 4k so looking for some future proof in these upgrades. Thanks

No benefit to over 16Gb RAM, just wouldn't be used for your uses.

You say you've got SSD's, but are they M2's as they're literally 10 times the speeds and aren't particularly expensive. I'd defintely suggest having an M2 drive as the OS drive, especially on X570

I'd up the PSU to the 750TXm model which will be able to handle any GPU upgrade in the future when you move to 4k. The VS is very budget and not designed for the level of hardware you've got.

On that CPU you want a mimimum of the H100i, but even the H115i Platinum, it needs to be kept very cool.

I'd get silver warranty as a minimum, it's only an extra 5er.

Yeah, looking good. The only thing I'd say is that M2 drive is actually slower than the PCS version and a lot more expensive, I'd either go for the PCS, or if you want substantial quality and it comes under budget, the Seagate Firecuda is the one to get.

Thanks, just a question about your earlier comment regarding CPU cooling on the Ryzen 9 3900X, the Corsair H115i will be sufficient right?

Dont want this thing melting on me!

Yes, that's the optimum, the H100i would just about do, but I'd always prefer the extra cooling power on that chip.

Thanks for all the advice, placed the order.

Just a question on the H115i, ive never had a liquid CPU cooler, is their maintenance involved? Topping up fluids etc?

No, completely sealed unit and no maintenance required other than normal clearing of dust in the fans. I’ve had a h100i running in my server 24/7 for 5 years now and not done a thing to it, still flawless. Brilliant coolers.
