Strange wifi issue: GIGABIT LAN & KILLER card

Hi,

I got my new PC Specialist laptop yesterday and it's brilliant, really happy apart from 1 annoying little thing. I upgraded to get the killer wifi card and at home my router is split into 2 channels: 2g and 5g. When I connect to my 5g signal which gives a much quicker internet experience, for about 5 minutes or so, weirdly, my laptop internet speed is very slow. Speed tests show it not going above 2.5 mb and then literally, give it 5 - 10 minutes, the speed check will then show 30 - 35mb (which is what I expect for my internet).

The browsing experience during the slow time is awful and I cannot think what could be causing this. I've maximised power for the card, so no battery saving and i've updated device drivers. But always, for the first 5 minutes or so, its a snail.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Here is the full spec of my laptop:

Sounds like something is hogging the bandwidth for that first five minutes, what programs load on start up, I've got virtually the same spec as you including that card and mine is fine, who's your ISP

Weirdly its ok this morning. Worked fast straight away. No idea what happened. I tested it out of the box, with no heavy apps installed initially and that's where I started seeing weird stuff.

Might have been downloading & installing updates
So to rule this out, I had the killer app open to see download and upload speeds and nothing was showing. I also switched and connected to the 2g channel on this laptop and the speeds were much faster; thus ruling out downloads hogging bandwidth. On my phone and other laptop, these were also both connected to 5g and when tested, the speeds were very fast compared to this laptop.

All seems fine now, but I think it might have been power related, can't say for sure, but very strange!

All good now though, so fingers crossed it stays as is.

It’s worth disabling the killer app, known to cause issues.

Hi,

An update on this.

So it turns out the card was faulty. I tried everything, including disabling the Killer app. PCS sent me a new card, which i replaced and so far so good. 5g speeds are absolutely fine.

So if anyone has a problem like this, could be a fault with the card as it was with mine (providing everything software wise has been tested to fix)
