I would personally go for a 1TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD for around £100

That will offer good performance at the moment for gaming, then once you've got your new build you can just swap it into that into a spare SATA slot as a game drive or even storage.

They're rediculously easy to install, literally plug in a SATA Data and seperate power connector, and done.

Then to install windows, you can create a bootable USB from here (assuming you're on windows 10):

If you need any help, just post here and we can guide you on getting setup.
Thank you very much, will probs try this for the short term(y)

This would be my final build if I was ordering today, but after advise from a couple of posters I am going to wait until the new Zen2 comes out.
Would change Processor for i7-9000K if in stock when I order or Zen2.
No storage as I will already have one to swap into PC.
No Windows 10 Home as I will get my own to put on pc myself.

The outline of the spec seems sound. Decent case, CPU cooling, PSU, and a 2080 ti seems appropriate for a spec of this budget.

Although for more meaningful comments, i.e. on CPU, motherboard, and also CPU cooling tbh, we'll need to see reviews of the new stuff. Still, only a couple of weeks to go :)

Any changes to this spec now that Zen2 is out, and would I fit my current GTX1080 with this spec if I decide to wait too upgrade my graphics card. Thanks

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I'm not finding the Zen2 to be particularly good value for money. When you consider that the 9900k is an expensive CPU a comparable 3700X build is £120 more.

Edit.... Scratch that, stupid Strix card was selected :ROFLMAO:

Zen2 build with 3800X (I like the idea of the faster base clock. You could save the money and go with the 3700X though) I'm guessing it's the same chip just a better silicone bin selection.

Thanks, so not worth it really, can I ask why the need for two hard drives ? . Thanks again

I have an optane used on a secondary drive, I can confirm they are pretty good as long as you are willing to buy minimum of 2tb drive.

The experience pretty much follows

Load a game, HDD speeds

Die reload level SSD speeds,

You only miss out on the first load after that its been cached.

using it on the main hard drive with the OS seems pointless to me since you could just get a cheap ssd for that and the Octane will prioritise the OS if you use it on main drive.

I would stick with the 9700k personally. The 9900k is likely to be somewhat held back with the security vulnerabilities with hyperthreading (I have one, I would advocate the 9700k if you can't wait for Zen2). Have a look at a pre-overclocked build to see if there is a cost difference.

The wireless you have chosen is the bottom tier. I would go with a 5Ghz offering if you plan to use the network for streaming etc.

Otherwise it looks pretty good. 2080ti will absolutely smash VR racing.

You may find that no matter how good your wireless is your router will be the bottleneck.

Eg. virgin media only has a wireless throughput of 100mB despite selling up to 350mB.

To add insult to injury their wired ports can only do more than 100mB if you turn the wireless off completely.

I had to buy a new router and turn the virgin router into modem mode. For some reason as well cheaper routers will advertise wireless speeds of 1200mBs whilst only having 100mB wan ports creating a stupid bottleneck. Ensure the new router has gigabit ethernet.

All this I learned the hard way

Must admit, I had no such issues. Are you sure it wasn't an affected router or the wrong configuration?

I have also changed to another router, because toys, but I had no issue whatsoever streaming at 600mb/s over the wireless and easily hitting 900mb/s over the cable. This was using the Superhub3.

That would have been on an older router, virgin super hubs have gigabit lan ports and the WAN will easily support the full 350mb

it was a hub3,

I'm not even joking, I called up customer support and they sort of went through all the test and then he hung up on me.

Called a second time and they took me through all the test except this time the only way they could get the advertised speed of 200 that I recently upgraded to was by turning into modem mode and then pluggin the wire into my laptop.

I sort of got chastised about how I need to use the wire if I want the fast internet speeds.

Regardless, I'm happy with the Asus I got because it can double as a Nas if you plug a portable hard drive into it which finally gave me a use for all the 4TB server disk I have which Cex offered me a pitiful £28 for when I can literally see it online refurbished for £400-500.

Was a pretty bad experience with virgin media. I sort of got the feeling they were throttling the speed or something because after the update I literally so no increase until I called to complain.

Customer service are absolutely hopeless. Their technical support are very poor as well for anything but the most basic of tasks.

I've never had any problems with the service other than the line into the house. As long as it's good everything has been fine. I know networking and setting up routers inside & out though. I have literally set up every single one for everyone in my family too as out of the box they are poorly optimised.

Forums can be quite helpful and, as you have found, mainstream routers can solve most issues by bypassing the hub.

I always use 3rd party routers, the supplied ones are almost always locked down to dns or other rediculous port forwarding restrictions and other things. They’re usually not worth the hassle.
