Non gaming desktop spec

Are there any items in the below build that are obvious bottlenecks or limitations in the overall performance? Anything that should be improved for a more balanced system?

I don't think I would need an external GPU (I don't do any gaming on a PC) but happy to change this if it makes day to day usage that much better.

Budget is between £1000 - £1200

When you say day to day performance usage, what are you using the PC for exactly?

Any specific software you run?

Or are we literally just talking basic MS office and some web browsers?

Nothing too special, mainly just for normal use and web browsing. I would run a trading application in the background most of the time, but just for manual trading when required.

Currently using a Macbook Pro Retina with i7 and SSD so was hoping to improve upon this speed if possible.

I'm not very familiar with macs but I'd imagine that i7 is actually a dual core ULV CPU in which case even a desktop i5 would be more powerful.

You could get something with very similar performance to your spec above a lot cheaper, but if you're happy paying a premium for performance then the above spec seems sound. You may want to consider a more upmarket mobo (e.g. Asus Z270E, Gigabyte Ultra gaming) for USB 3.1 and various bells and whistles. The Z270E has onboard 867mbps wifi plus BT 4.1 I believe, so you could potentially drop the wifi card and claw some of the extra mobo cost back.

Edit - this might get merged back into your other topic.
