New PC Problems..

Hi guys,
I just got my new PC and it is mostly OK, but i was just going to install The OS when I realised that the disc tray was not opening so I went into my computer and saw that the drive wasn't even showing up. Is this something that I can fix myself? maybe by downloading drivers or something? or will I have to send it back to be fixed?

Yes, if you go on your account on PCS, and under your order there should be a link to drivers for the DVD drive/or BD drive that you have. I think theyre Optiarc but I cant remember off top of my head. Otherwise you need to look for the question mark in device manager in windows and right click, update drivers

I'd open the case and check none of the connections have come loose. Can't really install drivers without the os.

Dam you lot are quick (pity your wives or gf's) :p

Sounds like it may just not be plugged into the power supply

Bleh, a few people beat me to that suggestion, I'll blame a work colleague who decided to ask me work questions .....

Drivers wouldn't really be an issue as it is a generic device and PCSpecialist install them during the testing stages anyway, it sounds more or less like a loose power cable. Open your case and make sure everything is securely plugged in. If that fails ring the support..

OK so when I look at device manager there is no CD/DVD drive showing up and when I try to install any drivers it tells me there are no matching drives detected like its not even there, so i'm guessing it's either broken or there is no power getting to it?
Also would opening it up to check void any warranty??

Hi Leob, no opening the case wont affect your warranty, and it does sound like a cable has come loose during transit.

As said, you must open the case and check the cables are plugged in securely. In response to the warranty matter, no it doesn't. You can find this out in further detail in the F.A.Q on the main PCSpecialist site.

EDIT;
Beat to it, lol...

Hi again everyone thanks for all the help, just to let you know I opened up the case and I could see straight away that some cables at the rear of the drive were loose so I pushed them back in rebooted and it worked :) (opened so fast I nearly s*** my self lol.) also installed the OS aswell had to call microsoft in the end but all is well now. Very happy with the PC now though,
thank you PCS :)
