Superhero Level Poster
I bought my PC 4 years ago, give or take anyway. Kind of lucked into it being pretty much just as new tech was launched, at the consumer level anyway. I've pencilled myself in an upgrade early/mid 2015 as I think we should have everything launched and prices settled by then.

Lets not fool ourselves here, new tech is ALWAYS launching, or at the very least getting cheaper by the day. You can already get boards with support for SATA express, M.2 and pretty much anything else can be added with a PCIe card later if needed so I wouldn't be overly worried. Though I would probably advise holding off (if you are getting a uber machine) for ddr4 as that's going to be the 'game changer' that you cant just update later to ddr4 modules if you buy ddr3 now.
