Need some opinions

Hello,

I'm building a PC that I'm going to use only for gaming (I don't stream or do anything video editing or anything of that nature). Money is no object with this build, I just want to be able to game at 4k at 144hz. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to PC's so I'm just looking to make sure my spec here is okay. Also I have only selected 1 m.2 as I'm adding a 1TB 970 Evo Plus that I have sitting at home already. I've heard that the 3090 is quite power hungry so it would be good to know if I need to instead opt with a larger wattage Corsair power supply.

Also if anyone has ordered an ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3090 - can you give some insight into how long roughly the queue is?

Thanks in advance,
Croupier

I’m jealous you got to this one first, @SpyderTracks. I love doing a ‘money is no object’ spec 😍

All sensible changes, there’s no point reaching for the most expensive components if they’re not going to be reaching their full potential 👍

@Croupier - what types of games will you be playing?

Cheers for getting back to me quickly... I'm pairing this with a LG 27GN950-B. OP was kinda what I was going for.
@AgentCooper At the moment I play games like EFT and any and all FPS. I also enjoy the AAA titles that are around the corner for example Assassins Creed, Cyberpunk and Watch Dogs Legion etc. I typically will play and enjoy anything.

Ah, lovely monitor, was just suggesting that exact one to someone else, good choice.

Coolio. I think the spec @SpyderTracks did for you will have you covered for seriously top end AAA gaming. Throwing more cores or RAM at it is only probably going to benefit you if you’re going for specifics. Like getting deep into Flight Sim, having ridiculously huge detailed battles on Total War, or really heavily modding games.

You possess a sexy monitor, for the record 😁👍

Yeah, I'd say if you were doing additional stuff like streaming or something, then the increased CPU would be worth it, but for strictly normal gaming, there's no benefit to it, likewise with the GPU, the 3090 just isn't worth it at 4k for normal gaming, if you were factoring in video editing also, then sure.

Thanks for the feedback guys - gonna meet you in the middle @SpyderTracks and opt for the 5900x and the 3080 as I am interested in Flight Sim and will downgrade the RAM to 32gb 3600
That’s fair enough then 🙂👍

If you’re going for the 5900X the ROG Strix X570 motherboard will be an appropriate match.

I like that you chose my favourite case, the 680X is a peach. Post some pics when you’ve got it all set up!

Okay, I have changed the motherboard to match. I certainly will take some photos when I receive it... with the 3080's we're looking at next year now right? Thanks again!

Quite possibly, but it's anyones guess. There's been a fair bit of despatched 3080 builds over this week, so there is movement.
