Good evening

My name is chris I am a architectural cad technician who does a lot of cad modelling and rendering, I typically use:
Google sketch up pro
Archicad 16
Vectorworks
Lumion pro

I have been quoted two different builds below but I am not to sure if I want to spend so much on my first build when I will need to upgrade in a few years. Any thoughts please??

I have also received a Intel quote as well:

CORSAIR CARBIDE SERIES™ 300R COMPACT GAMING CASE AMD FX-9370 Eight Core CPU (4.4GHz-4.7GHz/16MB CACHE/AM3+) ASUS® M5A97 LE R2.0 (DDR3, USB3.0, 6Gb/s) 8GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 x 8GB) 6GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX TITAN - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready 120GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W) 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM CORSAIR 750W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ MODULAR TXM-750 V2-80 PLUS® Corsair H60 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy Rx 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 4 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS NONE, I WILL BE USING BROADBAND 1 x 2 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead) Genuine Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit w/SP1 - inc DVD & Licence Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) DVD with paper sleeve NO OFFICE SOFTWARE BULLGUARD INTERNET SECURITY V2013 - 1 Year + 5GB Online Backup 3 Year Standard Warranty (1 Month Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour) STANDARD INSURED DELIVERY TO UK MAINLAND (MON-FRI) Standard Build - Approximately 8 to 10 working days

Both quotes came in between 1650-1800. Can I get a cheaper build capable of still performing well? I understand the GPU is the most important for rendering the CPU secondary for the modelling.

Look forward to your replies, thank you

Best regards

Chris

The first build is not from PCS? Neither have an intel cpu, I wouldn't go with either. For your budget I would get the i7-4770.

Hi Chris,

This is a PCS build within your budget range... A few things I should explain... Quiet cases normally mean less fans and more heat... if you're running a beast let it breathe... I think SLi 770's should outperform the Titan... or get a single 780Ti... either way this should perform much better than what you posted :)

Good evening

Thank you for the reply.. Good spot! The first one is a quote from another company but their reviews don't seem promising and they do not offer finance and the quote come back just over 1900. The second quote is from PCs after sending them the first quote. I meant amd! My bad (maybe secretly I know the Intel would be better)

OK do I get the k and have it over clocked? Or is this something I could do at a later point? I guess that CPU is capable of running my programme's?

A mate told me to get an i5 46series and get that over clocked to 4.5ghz is that a sensible idea? It might bring the cost down surely.

Best regards

Chris

That build looks much better then mine! Thank you definitely looks like a step in the right direction. GPU is a confusing area for me as lumion say they love the gtx cards titan/780ti but revit prefer the quadro k4000. If I am going to spend 1800 odd on a build I think its needs to be good quality and by the sounds of your posts so far it has probably got to be the Intel route..

I think I would get Cadwah's spec but with a GTX 780ti instead of 2 gtx770s. I'm not sure but I think that rendering can only benefit from a single GPU anyway. Could also be worth looking at a pre overclocked system.

Ok, so if you were looking at a pre-overclocked system with an Intel/Nvidia combo... something along these lines.
For what you do the i7 is probably best.
The GPU configuration is something for you to research and decide...

The case is obviously your choice, somewhere in that price region is good though.

Good luck!

Thank you for the responses I think the first quote of the two will be the one I will be closer to go with. I might risk the GPU and go for the gtx as I cannot imagine revit will have any hiccups with a gtx over a k4000? As I don't think I could get both ha.

Think I am 99% there now will just got through it with a tooth pick as it is a big choice for me!

The k4000 is very expensive and takes your build over £2k, that's why I didn't include it.

Good luck!
