Looking for advice on my PC build

Hi all. It's been a long time since I built my own PC and with so much choice out there and new specs, I am struggling a bit to navigate everything.

I would like to build a PC that would last a decent amount of time without the need for much additional upgrades. This would be a gaming PC, to play games like Witcher, WoW, BG3, and some others that are likely to come in the next few years, especially if on Unreal Engine 5. Budget wise i'm probably in the c. £4k at the max, but of course would be happy to hear options in case I can get a better price without compromising too much on quality.

I've put below the spec that I came up with, but would really appreciate any input into making this better / more optimal.

Thanks in advance!

It looks like you've used the 'workstation' config tool, rather than the 'gaming PC' tool, so it's limiting you to very high, overkill levels of components.

What monitors are you planning on using with it, apart from that 1080p one in the config?

If there's no other uses than gaming, then I'm sure we can come up with a much better value gaming PC.

Hi Tony, you are absolutely right - I actually did not realise that there was a different config tool.

I have sort of started again with the below, hopefully using the right tool this time. I am planning to get a new monitor so the one I initially selected was just based on the refresh rate. Please let me know if you have a specific recommendation.

Let me know what you think about the below and if any

Thanks!

Here you go...keeping the white aesthetic you wanted.

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE - WHITE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - the current best gaming CPU...better in gaming than the Intel as it will not overheat and throttle
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 6E) - top tier gaming motherboard...before you get into paying hundreds more for the 'enthusiast' overclocking motherboards
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB) KIT - WHITE - gone down to 32GB (2x16GB) of faster RAM, but it's £100 more if you know you need 64GB (2x32GB)
Graphics Card
16GB GIGABYTE GEFORCE RTX 4080 SUPER AERO OC - HDMI, DP, LHR - kept the OC version, as it wasn't significantly more expensive than the non-OC white version

1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) - very fast boot/apps drive (no games)

CORSAIR 1200W RMx SHIFT SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET - modern ATX3/PCIe5 PSU with plenty of headroom to both run in it's sweet spot for efficiency, and allow a CPU/GPU upgrade in 3-5 years time
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK H150i RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - WHITE - 360mm cooler/radiator for the top of the case (overkill, but will help with aesthetics by filling in the gaps in the case)

Leaves c.£1300 from the original build to spend on either an ultra-wide 1440p (3440x1440) or 4K OLED. You wouldn't go far wrong with either of these...

I may suggest a different ultrawide, while the Alienware was the daddy of the Gen 1 panels that started coming out in 2022, the newer panels have such a big improvement in key areas that really make gen 1 worthwhile avoiding now IMHO

The newer Gen 2 / 3 panels have greatly improved text clarity, better burn-in protection and better HDR performance.

This is an MSI option, brand new, would normally link a Hardware Unboxed video but they haven't done one yet

Or if you want to go really high end, the new LG panel

That’s the MSI one I was actually looking for when I found the 4k one…and didn’t bother looking further 😁

Never think of checking Curry’s (or PC World) - as they were never my favourite retailer.

I was surprised to see them stocking it, must agree, unusual to see such high end at curry’s, hopefully a sign they may start stocking more premium panels

Thank you Tony and Spyder, really appreciate you taking the time for this, looks like a great build and definitely more cost efficient than i envisaged - seems now I only have one thing left to do :)

Best wishes!
