Internet connection

Hi,

Had my PC a little over a month and one thing that is beginning to grate is that the internet connection rarely seems to be active on the first boot so I frequently have to reboot to make it work. The PC has a wifi card which I have turned off as I use an ethernet cable to connect and I thought this might be causing the issue but that has made no difference. My previous PC had no wifi and just the ethernet connection and was internet ready as soon as I powered on

I am sure it is probably something very simple but would appreciate any help you can offer. I am happy to provide any files as long as you guide me to get them!

First thing I would do mate is take the wifi card out entirely to make sure it's not that causing the issue

When it starts and the Internet is not connected open a command prompt (or PowerShell session) and enter the command ipconfig /all. Scroll the output so your Ethernet adapter entry is visible and then post a screenshot of that here.

Then, when you restart it and the Internet is connected, issue another ipconfig /all and post a screenshot of your Ethernet adapter entry here.

Then if I leave it a good few minutes it does eventually connect and it then looks like this

Nord will take a little while to connect on first boot, that's normal for any VPN if it's set to autoconnect, it takes time to contact the servers, establish a connection, and then get served an IP address.

I'm late back to the party it seems (it's an F1 weekend). As @SpyderTracks has said, your VPN is the problem. It's connecting when things fail but for some reason (down to the VPN) you're not getting end to end connectivity. When things work ok it's because the VPN has not connected at all.

TBH that sounds like a less than useful VPN if it connects sometimes on boot but not on others. If it's a paid-for VPN I'd raise this issue with them. If it's a freebie VPN then I'm not surprised TBH. :)

Nord is one of the best VPNs on the market, I've used it for many years, it's exceptional.

It connects fine, it just takes a little while as any VPN does.

But the OP was complaining of no Internet connection at all on booting, he said he had to reboot to get a connection (which seems to have been without the VPN).

He had a perfectly good connection to the VPN server when he had 'no Internet' so whatever the problem was it was with the VPN (login and authorisation perhaps?). His PC is clearly fine because he had a good Internet connection when the the VPN was not connected - which if it's set to connect on boot was a failure!

I just think the OP is being impatient, there's no need to reboot, it will connect, it just takes a little moment for the vpn to connect.

I don't think it's related at all to the PC connection, more how nord is configured, is it set to a static address? What's the load on that server? Double check the killswitch settings, etc etc.

TBH either way there is a VPN issue.

1. If the PC has connected to the VPN server, which it has in the first example, then why does he have no connectivity? I appreciate that it might take a minute or two to connect but from the ipconfig output (the first one) he is connected to the VPN server (with address 10.5.0.2) but he says he has no Internet access.

2. If he can reboot and the VPN fails to connect at all, as happened in the second example, then that's not good either.
