Gaming laptop. Help wanted

Hi, I just finished configuring a gaming laptop I am thinking about buying. I am however confused about some of the items shown on this diagram of the laptop here, items 1 & 2 are things I have never come across so if anyone could tell me what they are then I would be very grateful

Before you look at the specs, please note that I will be suing this primarily for video editing, gaming (+ recording with fraps) and maybe some live streaming. Please give me feedback as I have not much previous experience with laptops:

Well I would deffo up the Thermal paste to the ARCTIC MX-4 for an extra £9 and take out the silver warranty for an extra £5
Other than that looks ok tho not sure if a quad processor is better for vid editing.

Sure someone will be along who knows :yes:

DEAR MR CHEESEKAKE,

The particular model you have selected boasts Optimus technology. The processor has a built in GPU, which albeit rather weak compared to the discrete Geforce 555M GT GPU consumes very little power.

The Optimus button (diagram figure 1) on the diagram allows you to manually switch between the integrated GPU (low performance, high battery life) and the discrete GPU Geforce 555M GT (high performance, low battery life). The Optimus indicator lights (diagram figure 2) will show you which GPU is currently enabled.

While gaming and video editing I would recommend using the discrete GPU 555M GT, however while surfing and performing non GPU intensive tasks using battery power I would recommend using the integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU.

Although the 555M GT is a powerful GPU, if you intend to do some heavy duty gaming with the most recent titles I would recommend a Vortex III system with 7970M GPU. The relative performance difference is up to 6x higher depending on the game.

I would get an i7 but the cheapest quad core is only 2.2GHz - I know fraps eats through processing power as does video editing so would this be a problem?
