Fast PC for normal day to day use

I've been a Mac user for the last while, however, I've decided to make the switch back and am keen to get set up with a proper Windows desktop.

I will not be using it for gaming, rather, I just want to have a superfast system for normal day to usage. I would like it to be able to support two decent monitors, although initally I will only use one.

Are there any key areas I should be focussing on in order to ensure it can operate at top speed?

Budget for the PC up to £1000. I'll buy the periperhals separately.

If it is for day to day use you and considering your budget you could get an i5 with an SSD as your primary drive. The integrated gpu should be able to support 2 monitors.

Thanks - that sounds fine, although I was hoping that a desktop would allow me some kind of speedbump over my Macbook (which has an i7 with SSD), but I guess theres probably not going to be much difference in the end....

What sort of applications? Multitasking?

It would be running cTrader most of the time and the rest are just normal things: Chrome, office applications, Plex, Sonos, etc. Sometimes I use Photoshop and InDesign but not in too demanding a manner.

I was hoping there would be some primary elements I could include in a PC build to just have a snappy system, i.e. very fast startup, opens applications faster than at present, minimal lag between selecting any item and the resultant output etc...
