Do I need to uninstall old graphics drivers before I install my new GPU? Both cards are AMD.

Hi there, I'm replacing the graphics card on my current desktop and was wondering if I'd need to uninstall the old graphics drivers beforehand.

I'm swapping a Radeon R9 270 out for a Radeon RX-570.

I've read that having old drivers installed could lead to conflicts but that it should be fine if both cards are made by the same manufacturer, in this case AMD.

I guess I just wanna be safer than sorry.

Yeah you should remove the old drivers

DDU is good for that and free to download

Display Driver Uninstaller - not sure if we're allowed to post links here but google it and first result should be from Guru3D.

If you restart your computer into Safe Mode and then run DDU and do a clean uninstall, it will completely get rid of any old driver files.

You can post external links as long as they're not to competitors of PCS and as long as there isn't a thread on here that covers the subject. :)
