Comparison 17.3" Recoil III and Defiance VI: airflow/temp. and screen response time

Hi,

I am currently hesitating between the Recoil III and Defiance VI (both in the 17.3" versions), and would have liked to know if any of you has any information about these two factors:

- do they use the same screen panel? and what is their response time?

- the chassis of the Recoil seems like it would allow for better airflow given how slim the Defiance is (though I do prefer the general look of the latter). Would that be the case and would it make a significant difference in terms of more efficient cooling and fan load?

Thanks in advance for any info/advice you can share.

(these are the specs I am aiming for:
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 Six Core Processor 9750H (2.6GHz, 4.5GHz Turbo)
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2060 - 6.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
1st Storage Drive
1TB SEAGATE 7mm SERIAL ATA III 2.5" HARD DRIVE WITH 128MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 3500MB/R, 3200MB/W)
Thermal Paste
COOLER MASTER MASTERGEL MAKER THERMAL COMPOUND
Bluetooth & Wireless
GIGABIT LAN & KILLER™ WIRELESS-AC 1550 M.2 GAMING 802.11AC + BLUETOOTH 5.0)

Hello Anphiro,

This might be a question best asked of PCS directly, they don't always get a chance to monitor the forums so you'll be better off emailing/calling them for an answer.

Hi,

in the end I went for the Recoil, partly because of what PCSpecialist told me about the two models and also because I changed my mind about the GPU, as I went for a 1660 Ti which is not an option with the Defiance (also at closer scrutiny I preferred the placement of the various ports and plugs on the Recoil).

Here is the full response I got from them, slightly edited for clarity:

"1. NV173FHM-N44 is the panel used in both the Recoil and Defiance

2. Typically both chassis have the same thermal output range, the Recoil has two larger fans and the Defiance has a single large fan for the CPU and a dual fan setup for the GPU, these are smaller fans however. The mastergel will see a small improvement, but the biggest improvement is in the longevity of the paste.

I can definitely recommend that the thicker the chassis you’ll find better thermals and lower noise levels. This is obviously in conjunction with CPU and GPU usage but thicker laptops tend to have more overkill cooling solutions.
"

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for posting back with that - useful to know :)

Just for anyone else reading, it is possible PCS may change panels from time to time, so if it's very important to you, do check with them
