I want to upgrade my gaming PC. Right now I will stick with the monitor, keyboard and mouse that I have. (Unless you suggest otherwise)

I only play Cities Skylines... but heavily modded.

I don't wish to bankrupt myself, but I also don't want the spec to be out-of-date before June 2023.

I've based this set-up on the one someone who builds cities on YouTube has... yeah I do know how daft that sounds!

Half of the peripherals (is that even the right word?) I'm not sure what they do... and as for the box... well I thought the white one looked chic...

So - help me out here please... I'm way out of my depth.

Hi there,
My first recommendation would be to read the following

And then please let us know your budget and what monitor you’re pairing this with.

You’ve said you want 64GB of RAM and a 3080 as “non-negotiables” while also admitting you are not massively knowledgeable about PC components. 64GB is a LOT of RAM. The standard recommended amount is 16GB, with some heavily modded titles bumping up to 32GB. Not too knowledgeable of City Skylines, but you would need a hell of a lot of mods to need more than 32GB of RAM. Similarly with the 3080, if you’re using a 1080p monitor the 3080 is going to give the same performance as a 3060ti so it’s only worth going for if you have a beefy monitor to go alongside it; 1440p Ultrawide/Superwide or 4K 144hz.
If you’re basing those components on the YouTuber you mentioned, bare in mind that they will likely be using that PC to record and edit their videos as well, and these tasks will make use of the extra RAM and beefy GPU; these components do not necessarily make a difference in gaming performance, which is the bit you care about.

Thank you very much for your swift reply.

You make a lot of sense! - Exactly why I posted - so that someone with knowledge could assist me.
Apologies for not having read the please-read-before-posting etc.

So, I have:
- reduced the non-negotiable (ahem) RAM to 32K.
- altered the non-negotiable GPU to 3060ti.

These two changes have made a considerable reduction to the quote - so I appreciate that.
I do have a lot of mods and assets and that is taxing the 16GB that I have on my current machine... but I take on board that 64K is probably overkill.

I have also reduced my power supply

Your point about the YouTuber - I totally get.

Moving onto the monitor - (you know I didn't know that it made a difference!) I have an AOC 2250SWDAK LED Flat Screen
1920 x 1080@60 Hz

I'm sensing that this is going to make a difference to what you advise.

As such, I don't have a budget - When I first built a quote it came in at around £2K. It now stands at a healthier £1,650.

My only other suggestion is to replace the HDD with an SSD or even better and M.2. NVME drive. You will get a massive amount of performance boost in terms of loading times, and many games really need SSD drives to run effectively, for example Star Citizen is unplayable on a HDD as its loading so much textures off the disk a HDD just isn't fast enough. For an extra 60 dollars you'll benefit a huge amount.
