Total newbie - gaming pc £1500 budget - help

Hi, I'm going to purchase a gaming pc for my son and need help

Have budget of £1,500 (do not need monitors)

He will be gaming predominantly, would like to play racing games such as iracing. Will have a 3 monitor setup 3x 24" 1080p monitors (do not need to include in the price above)

No idea of where to start, and need suggestion on a spec please

Thanks in advance

What make and model are the monitors as we need to know the refresh rate? Racing games benefit from high refresh.

But to be honest at £1500 you may be able to power 1.5 1080p monitors but you'll struggle with 3.

Ah ok, thanks and this is exactly why I need the help :)

They are MSI optix G243cv 24" curved, refresh rate 75hz - been given 2 of these from a relative who has bought new screens and I was going to get another one (but sounds likes it's not a good idea)

As you step up resolution, so you need increased power to be able to run it.

At 1080p you're more CPU bound, so ironically you need a better processor than if you were gaming at higher resolution. SIMs in general also benefit from better CPUs.

At your budget, you may just about be able to squeeze a very entry level 1440p system, or a high end single 1080p system. But running 3 monitors you'd have to reduce settings quite significantly to get any meaningful frame rates.

Increasing budget to £2k, would this make a difference or not really
What's the maximum budget you have available? To get best performance you'd be looking around £2500. But £2000 would definitely be far far better.

And you understand that your monitors being 75Hz, the maximum framerate you can achieve is 75fps?

This is a tiny bit over, I've compromised on the case, I wouldn't personally want to compromise any further on this. I've compromised on the case, would have preferred something of the calibre of the Fractal North, but this is a decent budget case. I've also compromised on the secondary games SSD, 1Tb will just about do it these days, but of course you can add additional SATA SSD's down the line if you wish to. But this gives plenty of room to grow the system with a bigger GPU upgrade in the future, and even a later generation CPU, although the 7800X3D is an incredible CPU and should last the lifetime quite happily.

This set up will have enough ports for 3 x monitors? Would they be all hdmi, DP or mixture?

HDMI isn’t used for PCs, you’d use display port. GPUs only have one hdmi and 3 DP

Final question, if I purchased MSI G2422C 24-Inch Full HD 180Hz Curved Gaming Monitor to go with my existing 2x MSI optix G243cv 24" curved, refresh rate 75hz. Will the difference in hz rate cause an issue when running then in triple setup.... I'm struggling to find an MSI which is 24" and 75hz to match my current setup!

75Hz isn't really a thing anymore, it's not really considered gaming these days.

You can just set the monitor to 75Hz in the windows settings, doesn't matter if it's over that.

But yes, for best experience you'd want them all to match Hz in windows settings.

iRacing can be turned down quite a bit without affecting the visuals too much. It doesn't have the best visuals anyway but does work really well with good raster, which the AMD cards have in spades.

The above spec is a monster build with amazing future potential. The sky is the limit with simply a GPU upgrade required.

Instead of looking at 3 £200 monitors, I would consider the G9 that @SpyderTracks has. I understand this is future case, but it's some panel for sim racing.

You can find refurbished models now for around £650 which is an absolute steal. Plus when Samsungs new OLED 2 panels come out later this year, I have no doubt they’ll lower prices on the G95T to clear stocks

Thanks Scott, now you are blowing my budget 😜

I've been given 2 of the monitors already from a relative, who is upgrading to some new pricy monitors so I only need 1 extra. But I will certainly keep it in mind when I get a bit more money!
