Price: £1,761.00

Budget: I really do not wish to spend more than £1800 on this (on the PC alone, not including any peripherals).
Uses: As I said in the title, this would primarily be a gaming PC.
Monitor: The monitor I have been looking at is a 1440p 144 Hz Kuorrui.

Further to this, would anyone recommend say, having two 1TB SSDs instead of a single 2TB drive? I saw the post on the benefits of having multiple storage drives and thought it might be a good idea.

Thanks so much in advance.

Can you post up the configuration link as well please. Helps get people involved and means they don't need to assemble the config from scratch to offer assistance.

Propping up the overall build with better selections while keeping the same CPU/GPU combination takes you a little over budget. There are some areas that can be shaved to keep the cost down but they come at the cost of the luxuries, or you could forego the 7800X3D.

Options:

Replace the second 2TB drive with a 1TB variant - £53
Swap the 7800XT out for the 7900GRE +£31
Switch the 7800X3D out for the 7700 - £119 (additional option to save with the AK400 cooler)

My personal preference would be to actually keep the choices and add the 7900GRE. The 7900GRE is the best value option from AMD right now. I know it's over what you were looking to spend but it would be very much worthwhile and will push the upgrade requirements down the road also.

Thank you so much for this.

Do you not think that I could get away with a slightly lower Whatt Power Supply, such as a 750W or 850W? or do you think that the higher power one is necessary?

It's not really about what's necessary unfortunately. The last thing you want to do is replace the power supply should you wish to upgrade down the line. Nowadays I would recommend 1000w as a minimum with 1200w being more enthusiast level (higher tier cards such as the 4090). This doesn't change the amount of power you will draw from the grid, it just gives you the headroom should you need it.

There's also efficiency to take into consideration as well, it'll run at it's most efficient output in your uses. Additionally, with less than 40% utilisation the RMx PSUs run in zero fan mode, which means zero noise. They're really good PSUs.

It's not somewhere to skimp. You're entrusting your entire build to the quality of the power being provided to it. Some things are very easy to upgrade and replace, some things aren't. You want to compromise on the things that you can easily replace on your own, and have a solid foundation with the parts that you can't.

Ahh I see. That makes a lot of sense thanks.

About the 7900 GRE GPU instead of the 7800 XT, do you think that doing that will effectively further prolong the life of the GPU over the 7800 XT, or is it simply a matter of it being a slightly faster component that will just give slightly better graphics?
