PCS Nova Extreme Memory Issue

Hi

I bought a PCS Nova Extreme Pre built PC a few months ago,(Details at the end of post) which had been going well with small amount of use since then, however I’m running into some issues now that I can’t fix.

The issues started with a steam game that kept crashing first on installation and then after a few installation attempts crashing out of the game. I tried to re install and it is now just stuck on “corrupted update file” and won’t progress the download. I tried some other games that had previously worked and they also began to crash and on attempting to re install I’m getting the same issue.
I have also tried to install from epic games and am getting an error trying to install any games which says it can be caused by faulty ram. Some googling has also suggested the steam issue could be a ram issue.

I am also getting issues with downloading files which stop half way through or downloads on chrome and Firefox which stop midway despite my internet connection being fine and having no issues on work laptop over same connection. It happens even over Ethernet connection. I tried to reinstall steam completely which didn’t work. I also had issues updating drivers on Nvidia Geoforce experience, so I tried to reinstall this and I can’t even get the instal launcher to work as it cuts off midway through. Same for Corsair Icue installer which keeps giving a connection error.

I did the windows memory diagnostic check and have gotten the result “Hardware problems were detected. To identify and repair please contact the manufacturer “

I assume I am going to have to call the helpline as this is as far as my knowledge will take me, I bought the pre built unit as I wasn’t confident selecting compatible components or assembling myself.

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is some simple fix that I missing before I contact the helpline as if there is a hardware issue I will most likely have to return the pc which means it will be gone for a few weeks at best .

I can provide photos of the error messages if that would help.

I am also now getting a blue screen with “Your device encountered an error and needs to restart “ on several occasions. It disappears too quickly to see the rest of the error information.

May be worth removing the RAM sticks and making sure the pins are clean and reinserting them. Be aware they need to go back into the slots they come out of.

That would be a good first place to start.

Make sure it's turned off at the PSU before working on it.

The issues do sound rather network related though. Have you got the wifi antenna attached ok?

Thanks for your reply.

I think I would probably call the helpline before doing anything to the ram sticks, as I don’t want to do anything to void the warranty, I’m also not very experienced in that area, which is why I bought the pre built PC in the first place .

I would have also thought a network issue if it was only downloading issues, but that doesn’t explain the memory diagnostic giving a hardware error as well as the games crashing and pc crashing to blue screen. WiFi antenna is connected fine and also it’s connected via Ethernet cable. Have had no network issues for the past months until this started yesterday. If I try to down load a game it will download fully and then on the install come back with an install failed “the installation is corrupt “ error .

If you're unsure then do raise an RMA with PCS.

But you can remove and replace components and upgrade components as you like without affecting warranty, it's a custom PC, would be pointless if you couldn't touch it.

7.8Unlike with most computer companies, we allow you to open your case and install your own components without voiding your warranty on the following conditions:

  • If the actions of the person installing the components cause damage to the computer, your warranty will be void;
  • If you install components that are not purchased from us and they cause problems with your computer, your warranty will be void;
  • If you install components that are not purchased from us we will in no way support you in installing them or with any problems you have relating to the components you have installed.
  • We will support you in installing components purchased from us providing you have purchased them through the upgrade service available on your online account.
