'no signal' monitor problem, with a twist.

Ooookay, just go a new PC from you guys, and while it looks tres, tres sexy, that's about all it does, as when i turn it on I get the evil 'no Signal' and while the tower buzzes and the keyboard light up the monitor stay blank.

now I think I know what the problem is, the monitor is plugged into the motherboard but I have a fancy graphics card running everything. The only problem is there isn't a socket for the monitor plug on the back of the graphics card. I spoke to another friend and she said when she got a PC from you guys they sent a little adapter thing that sorted everything, but I've searched everything you guys sent and there's no little grey adapter, is there any way to fix this, or should I wait to either buy a new one, or for you guys to send me one, (not sure which of those is more annoying...)

i'm going to assume the little adaptor is a vga-dvi adaptor is what your friend is talking about, but what cable are you using, and the monitor you are using make sure its on the VGA/PC channel and that it is all plugged in then turn the pc on..

also when you turn it on do you hear the bios "beep"??

that sounds about right with the adapter yeah. I'm using the cables that PC Specialist supplied me with :p tbh I'm a TOTAL computer noob, so the techy names will just confuse me, but I took the cable out of the box they sent and plugged it into the socket that looked the same. As for VGA/PC channel I have no idea what that means, but I pushed a bunch of buttons on the monitor and nothing happened.

ok VGA/PC channel is literally just like av1 av2, tv, video etc etc.. most modern monitors can have several differant channels for several differant inputs :) does your PC "beep" after turning it on? after the fans come on you should hear your motherboard "Beep" this is your BIOS kicking in, which might be why your not getting a signal!

Hi, If you have bought a monitor with your PC you should have been supplied with a DVI cable and or mini adaptor.

The cable looks a lot like this:

dvi-cable.jpg

The adaptor a lot like this:

Other possibilities like steve says are that there is a more serious problem if you hear no post beep etc.

Is it an existing monitor? if so which. In either case please let us know what model the graphics card and monitor are.

Hmm, negative answers to you both here, I did buy the monitor from you guys and I did get the cable, but I did not get that adapter, also, worryingly, although there was a tone almost as soon as I turned the tower on, not sure you can really call it a beep, so what should I do next?

That tone is the post beep, thats a good thing!

If you have the DVI cable pictured above you do not need the adaptor, both the monitor and PC should have DVI connectors on them, is it possible to post a pic of how its setup at the minute?

yeah post bios beep is good!! it means your computer is starting up fine, maybe its just your lead or maybe it just not on the right channel/right ports :)

if this is all because it's not on the right channel, I'm gunna kill myself :p. but tbh I think it might be the bios thing, the tone on start up is quite at best and really can't be described as a tone. if that is the problem what do I do?

There is only one possibility for the tone, it has to be the post beep, several different tones would indicate a fault as would silence. The best bet is to call us, but that would have to wait until tuesday im afraid. If you can post a pic of the connection from the pc to the monitor we should be able to quickly tell if its an air-gap / cabling issue.

LoL I'm a total spanner :p that DVI cable wasn't included I've got the old school VGA monitor cable that looks like this */:::::\* so if I snuck out, got a proper DVI cable and hooked it up would that work?

you were worried, imagine how I felt :p anyhoo reckon I'll be able to pick one of them up from curries? or would I need a proper PC equipment shop?

Ye amazon, use Amazon Prime for next day delivery, dont use PCworld or Currys. The EXACT same cable is £29.99 instead of £4 on Amazon -.-

Just as a forethought, if you have on board graphics you might be plugging it in to the wrong port dependant on what graphics card you have, onboard ports will be near the top of the PC, the GC ones will be lower and vertical, and more than likely if you have a half decent graphics card 2 DVI and a HDMI output.
