Importer crashes

Using Avid Pinnacle Studio 15 for HD video editing. After long series of updates the Importer now crashes, every time it loads. Some friend with "half" knowledge suggests I need to enter a shell programme and turn video imaging import (or similar) back on from a drop down list.

Could anyone offer a guide how to access this, presumably from the Start key?

I have managed to dig around and have found the solution to this problem. It may help other non techos, like me:-

Start services <Administrative Tools> Services.
Look up Shell Hardware Detection
Windows Image Acquisition

If disabled click through to Automatic- Apply and problem solved.

Hope that may help someone.
