Check my illustrator PC spec

Hi everyone,

I used to build PC's a very long time ago but since I've stopped, tech has moved on without me.
I'm an illustrator that needs to use the Adobe suite intensively and I try to only buy a PC once every 5 or so years with the occasional upgrade in between. I've built this PC with my limited knowlege and wonder if someone could take a quick look for me.
I need lots of processing power and the ability to use an SSD as a scratch disk. I do game but nothing really intensive so the graphics card is just to future proof it a bit.

Thanks in advance!

Nat

Strange, it looks like my original response from last night has gone AWOL.

Anyway, it was basically to ask what monitor (resolution & refresh rate, or make & model) you're using for the 'bit of gaming' as that will really determine the level of GPU you'd need.

But if gaming is very casual, and not for anything demanding (i.e. Elden Ring, Hogwarts, MSFS, Alan Wake, Last of Us, etc.) then the 4060Ti will easily handle them at high settings 1080p or mid settings at 1440p...and if it's very light gaming, then you could get away with a lower tier GPU and PSU completely and save a couple of hundred £££.

For the Adobe part of the build, the only parts I'd be concerned about are the cooling and the PSU.

I'd want a lot stronger cooler as that CPU can hit c.230W on full load and that case won't help with thermals.

Depending on the plug-ins/effects you're using, then the extra cores may not make much difference and you could go to an i5 (or even an AMD build to keep the temps down).

This is where I'd go to bring the i7 build above under control (some of these options were not available on your config as you'd gone through the 'office PC' configurator:

Case
CORSAIR iCUE 4000X RGB TEMPERED GLASS MID-TOWER ATX CASE - WHITE - much better airflow, with better/more controllable fans
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i7 20-Core Processor i7-14700 (Up to 5.4GHz) 33MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® PRIME B760-PLUS D4 (LGA1700, DDR4, PCIe 5.0) - could get a motherboard with wifi/bluetooth built in, but it would add about £60
Memory (RAM)
64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200Mhz (2 x 32GB) - only £4 more for a recognised brand
Graphics Card
8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4060 Ti - HDMI, DP, LHR
Graphics Card Support Bracket
NONE (BRACKET INCLUDED AS STANDARD ON 4070 Ti / RX 7700 XT AND ABOVE)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) - very fast m.2 for Windows and App installs only
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) - very fast m.2 for your cache/scratch
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 4125MB/sR, 2950MB/sW) - fast (and much faster than the QVO SATA drive) for your projects/media
Power Supply
CORSAIR 750W RMe SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET - the CX range are for office PCs really, and this is about as low as I'd want to go for that CPU and GPU combo - as you want to keep it running in it's optimum range of 30-70% to reduce heat & wasted energy
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB High Performance CPU Cooler - should be enough to keep the i7 under control and from throttling (at least it's not an i9 or a -K series)
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD LAN PORT
Wireless Network Card
WIRELESS INTEL® Wi-Fi 6E AX210 2,400Mbps/5GHz, 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD + BT 5.0 - could get a motherboard with this built in, but it would add about £60
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence
