Hi All,

May I ask you for your feedback on the below workstation specs?

This machine will be used for: heavy overnight rendering (maxwell render), 3d modelling (rhinoceros3D) and some Photoshop.

Budget 9k

(I already have a Monitor, Benq PD3200U).

Few questions:
  • Should I upgrade the Motherboard to ASUS® PRO WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI 7 ? I cant really tell the difference in specs due to my limited knowledge.
  • Is it benefitial to have 2x M.2 SSD Drive? I have limited understanding of how this works but I gather that 1 drive is for OS & Apps and other drive for Work Files? Is this the correct approach?
  • Would you add Extra Case Fans?
  • Any other suggestions?

Some build that. I would re-think the storage and with the price I would definitely bump the cooling for the minimal cost. I see the Shift is in there now as well so that's a good shout.

For some reason few weeks ago when I saved the quote, the option of combining the FRACTAL DESIGN TORRENT RGB MID TOWER CASE and the ENERMAX LIQTECH TR4 II 360mm was not possible and I had to either go for a bigger Case (which I would not be able to fit in my set up) or go for the ENERMAX LIQTECH TR4 II 240mm, which is what I did.

However now its possible to proceed with the combo you are suggesting, so thanks for your input, I would not have noticed this otherwise!

On another note, I dont mind paying a little extra for the SAMSUNG M.2 SSDs as I thought it's a premium brand. But do you think the SOLIDGM & CORSAIR combo you are suggesting would be superior in terms of quality/performance? If so, will switch.

Hi there,

Yes, definitely better IMO. Samsung have left a real sour taste in my mouth since the 970 series. The 980 had very poor endurance, the 990 fixed the endurance but had horrendous firmware bugs initially that caused a load of hassle.

The SolidGM and Corsair drives offer top end endurance warranty and they're super fast. Samsung have really taken their eye off the ball, which is a shame as IMO they really kicked it all off in the mainstream with the 950 series.
