Yes, the BSODs were random.
Got you as regards usage - I was thinking you meant something a lot more "tecchy" that I had to do.
I will do as you advise - thanks again for the help!
Great. All done. Optional updates installed & re-booted.
Earlier today you said:
"Then test the laptop thoroughly - without installing any other software or plugging in any external hardware. If you get BSODs in that state then it's definitely a hardware problem."
What is the best way to...
Thaks ubuysa.
Re advanced options - optional updates. There are 3 driver updates. Should I upload them? Microsoft's blurb is unless there is a specific problem, automatic updates will keep the drivers up to date.
Device manager is showing that all the disk drives (x3) are OK. Nothing to...
Thanks Martinr36.
My BIOS looks nothing like the one in the video.
With the USB stick installed, I'm through to a screen offering me a choice of:
System Vol Info
Boot
EFI
Sources
Support
Bootmgr.efi
Which is the correct option?
Thanks, ubuysa - that's what I thought you'd advise.
Just one question about the clean install. When I do it, will there be an option saying "delete all existing UEFI partitions", or is that something I do at some other point in the process? I have Windows 11 on a USB boot drive, but I've not...
HI guys:
I've not had a BSOD in the past 2+ weeks, but as the laptop couldn't write dumps anyway, it wouldn't make any difference if I had.
But: I'm still having audio / visual problems which I thought were tied-in with the BSOD problem.
AUDIO: when playing audio files in whatever software -...
Once again, thanks guys (inc Martinr36) for your assistance.
1. ESET NOD32 has now been uninstalled. After rebooting, I had a message from ESET asking why I had uninstalled, etc. So it is now OFF my computer.
2. In reply to ubuysa: I understand what you are saying, but (with respect) I can...
Wow! Now THAT is a mind-blower.
1. I am using ESET NOD32 anti-virus, & have done for years. It is due for renewal this month, so I will cancel the auto-renewal. I will also uninstall as you have advised. Can you point me to a link explaining what you have said about 3rd party AVs being...
Thanks, Spyder. I was not aware that that facility existed. (Bet you've heard THAT one before).
There were 3 "optional updates" available. I have downloaded & installed them.
I'll reboot & see how it goes. I'll have to give it a few days to see if it's worked. Whatever the outcome, I'm...
The BSOD appeared again & did its thing. When it finished I immediately checked in C:\Windows - but there was no memory.dmp file as shown in the post above. Definitely not there.
A new file had been created in C:/Windows/Minidump - but it would not let me zip it ("File not found or no read...
Thanks, Ubuysa - kernel dump uploaded to Google Drive in the folder named "PCSpecialist" (where the other data is).
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lMqbt7C4M05vAy_1sylF0pBgQCeCO97n/view?usp=drive_link
(Don't really know what I'm doing here - thanks for your patience).
Thanks for the replies, guys.
Yes, my laptop is from PCSpecialist (it's about my 3rd or 4th, in fact).
I haven't uploded files to a filesharing site before, so am now going to Google Drive to try to do just that.
Done ( I think)...
HI:
The above error message is driving me crazy.
I have extracted the data requested from the BSOD sticky-thread entry (event logs, minidump, etc.), but I do not know how to upload the files to this forum, so I am stuck.
Can you advise?
Thanks.
