Video Card

Looking at getting a new computer, my setup at present uses a KVM switch between 2 computers. I use a dual screen setup on the computer I plan to update. my present card ( a 1gb Nvidia GTX 330 ) has one VGA out and one DVI which has a small plug in converter to change it to VGA. What would be the best card to select on my new machine given I must use VGA? Do a little video work ( mainly SD, a little HD, not 4K ) so nothing heavy.

As PCSpecialist sell custom desktops and laptops we can't advise on self builds or competitor builds, you may want to check out Tom's Hardware which is an open forum.

If this is about a PCSpecialist system, if you post your full proposed spec we can comment further, it's not really viable to talk about individual components as they all relate to each other.

So that card should be fine as it has a VGA port on it already. So you could use 1 x VGA or a DVI and then have a spare HDMI left over.

just wondered as I can see 2Gb versions on the net but only 1Gb as an option? Would have liked more than 1Gb but stuck needing VGA?

I sometimes use it for editing videos , SD or HD, not 4k, also Photoshop with fairly large pictures. Sometimes things get a bit slow while editing and saving despite having an SSD as both system and working discs but I do only have an i5 2320 3Ghz processor, so maybe that's the main problem!

If that’s the case then the whole build is wrong, an AMD rig would be far better.

What’s your budget?

my second computer has an AMD 4300 quad core 3.8Ghz with a Radeon R7 200 series video card and processes video a lot slower than my i5 despite being a newer machine so I am a bit wary of AMD but open to suggestions! I forgot to mention both computers have 8Gb RAM. Thanks for all your help!

That's integrated graphics, so would be awful for any kind of video editing. It's also a poor processor anyway, not suitable for that kind of use.

AMD are streets ahead of Intel for any multithreaded workload to the point where it's almost a joke.

What's your max budget for the build?

The budget is very limiting for what you're asking of it, this is as low as I'd want to go, you can lose another £100 off it and bring it within budget if you can transfer a windows license from another machine you're not longer using?
