IMPORTANT NEED HELP COMPUTER SCREEN TURNS OFF RANDOMLY BUT THE PC IS STILL ON

hello i am desperate for help with my computer. One day i was playing a video game and my screen suddenly turned black but my pc was still running (i could still hear the game sounds)
also my screen was on but black so i restarted and it worked for a couple of hours but happened again playing a different game. i restarted again but this time my computer showed the windows logo but the screen went black all of a sudden again. So i had a copy of windows 8.1 and i formatted my computer and installed it. So i open google chrome and was browsing for a while and screen went no signal on me but the pc was running. i restarted again same thing.(also this happens very randomly through out the day) I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO PLZZ HELP

its a custom pc it has an instel core 17 4790 3.6 ghz cpu

16 gb ddr4 ram

zotac geforce gtx 970 overclocked

power supply unknown that is what i know
